Welcome to Tamarack Farm
Founded in 2010, Tamarack Farm is nestled in the scenic backroads of Lancaster County in Paradise, PA. Our family farm sits on 9 lush acres where we raise and up-breed Gotland Sheep for their fiber. We also sell items throughout the year in our “stuga” (Swedish for Cottage), such as yarn, roving, fleeces, potpourri, homemade soaps and other fiber related items.
Gotland sheep originate from the small island of Gotland, in the middle of the Baltic Sea, off the coat of Sweden. Their bloodlines date back to the Viking era. This even-tempered, friendly long-tailed breed offers unique gradient in their wool and a mid-length staple that shares many characteristics with luster long wool breeds.
Gotland yarn, when knit, has a lovely drape. When over-dyed, it gives heather shades of color. Gotland wool also felts quite easily, making it an excellent choice for filters. Fiber artists and doll makers find their locks amazing to work with, often using them as embellishment.
